With over thirty years of experience performing and creating magic, and having assembled one of the most comprehensive collections of magic lore and secrets in North America, it’s no surprise that David consults on a wide range of projects. Recent television projects include choreographing magic for the Houdini “who-dun-it” episode for The Murdoch Mysteries and the national television commercial - Cool Trix With Cool Pix for Nikon Canada. David was also the magic consultant for “The Wizards of Awe” - a two-part documentary for The Journal, “Martin Gardner Mathemagician” for The Nature of Things, “The Strange Genius of Stewart James” and “Dai Vernon - The Spirit of Magic” for History Television’s The Canadians. This latter film, in which he also acted as Associate Producer, was awarded the Chris Award from the Columbus Film Festival as the best biographical documentary in the year, a bronze award at Worldfest, Texas and was a finalist at the New York Film Festival. Other credits include Heroes of Magic for Thames Television (U.K), and the Vision Television series Engimas. inspired by the poems of Dennis Lee. The film, narrated by Michael Ondaajte and Leonard Cohen, will be screened at film festivals in late 2009. David also created, choreographed and taught magic for Stanley Tucci to perform in Kit Kittredge – An American Girl. Stanley learned, among other things, how to levitate Joan Cusack. David is also active as a theater consultant. Recent productions include Soulpepper Theatre’s production of Tom Stoppard’s Travesties, and Penn & Teller's Living in Las Vegas, Live at the Rio. Past theatrical productions include The Scarlet Pimpernel for the Stratford Festival, School for Scoundrels for Soulpepper Theatre and Merlin for Young Peoples Theatre. David is on faculty with the Banff Centre for the Performing Arts, teaching a program on magic and theatre. David has contributed commentary to a variety of publications including Shift Magazine, Toronto Life, the Globe and Mail, and the Toronto Star. Recently, he served as a consultant for renowned author Michael Ondaatje and his award-winning novel, Divisadero. David has provided personal coaching on presentation skills to several senior corporate executives. |
