David directs his time and talent to a variety of worthwhile causes. He is the co-founder and Artistic Director of Magicana, a performing arts organization and registered charity which serves to educate and increase the public’s understanding and appreciation of the art of magic. David spearheads My Magic Hands, an interactive outreach program that uses magic as an introduction to creativity and the arts for disadvantaged children. Now in it’s sixth year of operation, the program – implemented through Magicana – works with Bloorview Children’s Hospital, Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Canada, the Learning Enrichment Foundation and Horizons to serve and inspire youth. David also initiated Senior Sorcery, a program of mirth, mystery and magic developed for seniors in retirement homes and recreational centers. The shows are designed to not only stimulate the imagination but also create an opportunity where seniors and their families can spend a little more time together. David is longstanding member, contributing his time and talent, tothe Leacock Club – the philanthropic arm of The Stephen Leacock Foundation for Children, an |
umbrella organization that raises and disperses funds to a variety of organizations in Canada and South Africa, dedicated to improving the well being of youth. For the magic community, David has donated his time and expertise to conferences on magic history including the Los Angeles Conference on Magic History and the Magic Collectors Association annual conference in Chicago. For the past seven years, David has co-chaired with broadcast mogul and amateur magician, Allan Slaight, 31 Faces North, a think-tank for magic where the world’s foremost practitioners come to exchange ideas and nurture developing talent. David was a feature lecturer at the Centenary Celebration of the Society of American Magicians (2003), one of the six “never to be repeated” presenters at the quarter century combined gathering of the International Brotherhood of Magicians and the Society of American Magicians (2008), and a two-time presenter at the Hakone Conference (1999, 2007) in Japan. He has served on the Board of Directors of the Arts and Letters Club and the Theatre Museum of Canada. When his schedule permits it, David is pleased to participate in gala fundraisers. |
