One of the finest magicians of his generation, David performs magic in a variety of ways. He is an actor, writer, performer, producer, and creative consultant. Born in Toronto, Canada on March 5, 1961, David's interest in magic began at the age of fourteen. While attending university, David worked in a magic emporium, selling and demonstrating magic to other magicians. He studied magic for six years under the guidance of master magician, Ross Bertram, who is regarded as one of the greatest sleight of hand artists of the twentieth century.
As a magician David has performed throughout the United States, Canada, and England and in Mexico, France and Japan. He is the co-creator, performer and producer of The Conjuror and The Conjuror's Suite - critically acclaimed theatrical performances which have been staged at prominent theater festivals and which have enjoyed long commercial runs in Toronto and other centers.
David has appeared on dozens of television programs including "Pamela Wallin Live" and "Open Mike: The Mike Bullard Show". He was the subject of a documentary film "A Conjuror In The Making" which obtained the highest seasonal ratings for Adrienne Clarkson Presents when aired on the C.B.C. in Canada. The film also aired on Breakfast In The Arts on the Arts and Entertainment Channel (A & E) in the United States.
A graduate of the University of Toronto, the University of Western Ontario and the London School of Economics, David was also a tax lawyer with the international law firm Goodman, Phillips and Vineberg. He started the trend referred to in the Wall Street Journal of the magician as motivational speaker in 1990 and remains in great demand as a corporate keynote speaker on creativity, problem solving and sales. His clientele include IBM, Standard Radio Inc, Bell Canada, National Trust, Arthur Andersen, Imperial Oil, Scotia Bank, Ernst & Young, Minolta, and the Gemological Institute of America. He has also designed interactive trade show presentations for such clients as 3M, Amdalh, and Toshiba.
David has also been the consultant to such television documentaries as "The Wizards of Awe" - the highest rated two part documentary in the history of The Journal, the Daniel Zuckerbrot film "Martin Gardner Mathemagician" for The Nature of Things, and History Television's "Dai Vernon - The Spirit of Magic" (in which he also acted as Associate Producer.) This film is the recipient of many awards including the Chris Award from the Columbus Film Festival (where it was also selected for its prestigious showcase) as the best documentary biography produced in the year, Bronze Award at Worldfest, Texas and was selected as a finalist in the New York Film Festival. Since working on the Dai Vernon film, David has become not only the official biographer of Dai Vernon but also the legal representative of the Dai Vernon Estate within the magic community. David was the consultant on another film for History Television - "The Strange Genius of Stewart James", and was an on-camera guest in John Fisher's documentary "Heroes of Magic" for Pearson Television, England.
David is the founder of Magicana - a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to the pursuit, study and development of magic as a performing art. He is the recent recipient of a U.S. Green Card as an 'alien of extraordinary artistic merit' and now resides in New York City.
